Google confirms Nougat is Android 7.0 in video

Google's official Android YouTube channel just uploaded the video below. Above? A screen capture from it. Android 7.0 Nougat - there you have it. Google revealed the nickname of the latest Android OS earlier this morning along with the mascot you see above.

Android 7.0 follows Android 6.0.1, meaning Android 6 never even had a proper 6.X release. Android 5.0 had 5.1[.1], 4.0 had 4.1 through 4.4[.4], 3.0 had 3.1, 2.0 had 2.1 through 2.3[.7], and 1.0 (never released) had 1.5 and 1.6.

Google app v6.1 Beta allows users to disable local trending searches, includes first tangible elements of Google Assistant, and more [APK Teardown + Download]

A fresh beta update just started rolling out for the Google app, popping the version number up to 6.1. There aren't many immediately obvious changes with this release, but it does contain a switch that will allow users to turn off trending searches in their area. But if you're looking for some potentially exciting new things, a teardown reveals the first physical pieces of the recently announce Google Assistant. There are also a couple bits related to deep search for apps and background retry for failed searches.

Super-pretty drag racing sim CSR Racing 2 is now available following geo-limited beta

The greatest challenge in racing is clearly going as fast as possible in a straight line. Turning is for chumps. That's the only explanation for the ridiculous popularity of the original CSR Racing. Now, the sequel is out after a geo-limited beta test. CSR Racing 2 is free-to-play, but you get to drive pretty cars very fast in a straight line. What else do you want?

Joking aside, CSR Racing 2 is much like the original.

Dell says it's done making Android tablets, won't push new updates to existing ones

After dabbling in Android tablets for years, Dell is finally throwing in the towel on Google's mobile OS. The company won't be making any more Android tablets, and it's ending update support for the Venue tablets that already exist. That's a bummer for anyone holding out hope that the Venue 8 would make it to Android 6.0.

Dell says this decision was made because the tablet market is over-saturated and demand is declining.

Her Story, a trippy crime thriller game-movie hybrid, comes to the Play Store for three bucks

If you follow the indie game development scene you've probably heard of Her Story, if only in passing. It's an incredibly unique game where you play a homicide investigator trying to solve a murder. But unlike most games with that description, Her Story doesn't task you with running around a noir-inspired city or shooting hundreds of criminals. Instead you have a series of police interview videos, all delivered in live action by actress Viva Seigert, which you must organize and decipher to solve the case.

HTC promises Android Nougat upgrades for the One M9, One A9, and HTC 10

After this morning's surprise announcement of Android Nougat (comment on the original post to express your displeasure at the name, por favor), HTC wasted no time in using it for a little social media marketing. About an hour later the company posted the tweet below on its official international account, promising an upgrade for the current HTC 10 flagship, last year's One M9, and the sleeker One A9.

So sweet.
