Samsung's official Oreo update notes for the Galaxy S8 are now live

It seems like quite a few manufacturers have been having trouble with Android Oreo update rollouts, and Samsung hasn't been immune to this. Galaxy S8 units in Europe began receiving Oreo a few weeks ago, only to have the rollout halted due to some units randomly rebooting. The rollout has since recommenced, and Samsung has just made the update notes for the S8's Oreo update available.

Update notes tend to be very long, as they go into pretty great detail regarding what exactly has changed.

Surprise: DisplayMate deems the Galaxy S9's display the best it's ever seen, gives it "Excellent A+" grade

For as long as I can remember, each Samsung phone's release has been accompanied by a DisplayMate test proclaiming this new Samsung phone's screen to be the absolute best. Given just how good Samsung's AMOLED panels are, we can certainly understand this, but it's just interesting to see the same thing said every year. This time around, DisplayMate has awarded the Galaxy S9 an "Excellent A+" grade.

While the Galaxy S9/S9+ panels are physically the same size as those on the Galaxy S8/S8+, DisplayMate's Dr.

Google Express now lets you add NFC-enabled cards with a tap

A new feature has cropped up in the Google Express app: the ability to tap NFC-enabled credit cards to phones to add them as payment methods. Doing so will automatically populate the card number and expiration date fields, but you'll still have to add the security code manually.

During checkout, an NFC button now appears in the "add new card" menu. A cute little drawing in Google's trademark colorful style explains the process, which is pretty straightforward.

NBC app gets Android Smart Lock support to make using your NBC Profile even easier

Passwords are a necessary nuisance in our modern digital lives: they help keep our accounts and personal data safe, but they're a hassle to keep track of and type out every time you need to log in somewhere. Android's Smart Lock for Passwords makes everything much easier by letting users automatically logging in on Android, as long as the password is synced to their Google account. Somewhat unfortunately, though, each app has to be updated to work with Smart Lock, so support isn't as ubiquitous as one could hope. Thankfully, many developers eventually do add support for Smart Lock, and the NBC app is just the latest one on that list.

Google expands featured snippets to provide better answers to multi-intent search queries

As Google so aptly states, we often pose nuanced, and sometimes ambiguous, questions to our favorite search engines. While we as humans often understand such questions in context, especially if we know each other well, search engines are not that smart or aware. Google is hoping to address that with the addition of its new multi-faceted featured search snippets.

The basic premise is this: you enter a nuanced query – that is, one that is not explicit in and of itself – and Google returns multiple answers to you, each meant to address a different meaning behind your question.
