LG says the V20 will be released in September with Android 7.0 Nougat

wm_LG3

LG has been having problems in the wake of poor LG G5 sales. The Korean smartphone maker has already given some execs the boot, moved others to different areas, and formed a new smartphone oversight group. LG is pinning its hopes for turning 2016 around on the V20, which it has now officially acknowledged on its Korean site. The V20 will be out in September with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

Weekend poll: How long have you owned your current smartphone?

nexus2cee_DSC6916

Smartphones are getting better, generally speaking. There's little doubt of this. Cameras, displays, performance, and connectivity see improvements with each passing generation. The adoption of common standards - some that you may not even think about - has helped a lot, too. Everything from the super obvious (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) to the formerly obscure but increasingly necessary (NFC, USB-C) continues to cause smartphones as a whole to commoditize and, on some basic level, homogenize.

Flow, Microsoft's cloud automation engine, gets an Android beta app

flowMicrosoft wants to get in on some of that sweet action that services like If This, Then That and its competitors have been working on for years. To that end they've created Flow, a new web tool that automates actions across some of the major web services available at the moment, most of which (shocker!) aren't even owned by Microsoft. Flow allows users to set up automated "recipes" to complete tasks in Twitter, Dropbox, Google Drive, Slack, OneDrive, Github, Facebook, YouTube, and more.

YouTube version 11.29 returns the 'X' close button in the background notification

Screenshot_20160730-223251We've taken a look at the APK for the latest version of YouTube, 11.29, and there's some mildly interesting bits under the hood, but not much that's user-facing. There's one exception: the little "X" button to close the notification has returned. See it up there? It's back. Hooray!

Last time, on Minute Video Player User Interface Adjustments...

Of course you only get the notification if you're 1) subscribed to the YouTube Red premium service and 2) have background play enabled in the app's settings menu.

Exclusive: Manual exposure control is coming back to Google's Camera app

cameraOne of the coolest additions to the camera in the Android 7.0 developer preview was an option to manually adjust the exposure in the camera app. It's not as if that's a groundbreaking feature - plenty of third-party apps and manufacturer skins offered the same thing - but it's nice to get it in stock. The manual exposure option has disappeared in some of the later preview builds, but there's good news: it's coming back.

First Look: The YI 4K Action Camera, nearly identical specs as the GoPro Hero4 Black for half the money

IMG_7799Few would argue that GoPro is the king of the action camera world. It's the brand of choice for professional film crews and amateur enthusiasts alike and dominates the competition in terms of market share and brand recognition. GoPro's current flagship model, the HERO4 Black, is touted by many as the best action cam on the market.

A couple of weeks ago, GeekBuying.com asked if I would be interested in reviewing a new GoPro competitor, the YI 4K Action Camera.
