Sling TV announces a new interface for Android users to improve navigation and content discovery

I have watched Sling TV steadily grow in both popularity and size in the time since its birth. The channel count is now quite ridiculous (in a good way), but with that comes the need for easy navigation and new content discovery. Luckily, Sling has that covered with the new update rolling out soon to Android users (with additional platforms coming soon).

The first element is the Grid Guide, which feels very traditional and should be comfortable to most users who have spent any time with cable or satellite television in the last few years.

Google says inconsistent Trusted Places behavior is fixed in Play Services v11

Smart lock can be a life saver if you're unlocking your phone constantly, and Trusted Places is one of the most frequently used options. With Trusted Places, you can set locations where your phone will skip the secure lock method, but it hasn't been working so well as of late. Google says that's fixed in the latest version of Play Services, though.

Symptoms of this issue include smart lock failing to keep your device unlocked while in a trusted area, and the opposite happens, too.

Gboard v6.3 beta is rolling out with improved search interface, search emoji by drawing, and more [APK Download]

There's a new version of Gboard hitting devices tonight, right after Google accidentally sent an internal v6.3 "dogfood" test build out to some users. Oh well, the version that's rolling out in the Play Store right now (also v6.3) is the proper consumer build, and it has some cool new stuff. Searching is now quicker and more powerful, whether you're looking for a webpage, emoji, or a GIF.

The app is just beginning its slow roll, so we're not certain what all the new things are.

WSJ: Samsung's English-language Bixby rollout delayed because English is hard

Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 several months ago without the promised voice Bixby voice control. It said at the time the feature would be launched soon, but so far only the Korean-language version has rolled out. The company imposed a deadline of "spring" for the English launch, but the WSJ says we're still at least a few weeks away from release.

According to the new report, Samsung is having issues getting Bixby to understand all the little idiosyncrasies of English.

Unlocked Galaxy S8/S8+ now available in the United States

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are pretty fantastic phones, but until now, they were only available to purchase from a carrier if you were in the United States. Pre-orders for the unlocked models started earlier this month, but now you can buy them from a variety of retailers.

Buying an unlocked S8 in the US is a bit complicated, so bear with me here. There are two unlocked variants for sale in the US - the actual US unlocked model, and the International unlocked model.

Google Store launches in Puerto Rico, Pixel and other products available for purchase

Puerto Rico, despite being a territory of the United States, is often treated as a separate country by businesses. Until now, the online Google Store was not available on the island, but that changes today.

Google has updated the Google Store country picker to include Puerto Rico. In addition, the support document listing product availability by country has been updated with mentions of the island. Currently, only the Google Pixel, Daydream View, Samsung Chromebook Plus, and various accessories are available for purchase.
