Selecting images in Android Q's app switcher is broken, preventing you from easily sharing Instagram pics

Android P introduced a rather magical ability for smart text and image selection (on Pixel devices, mostly in English). When you opened the app switcher, a.k.a. Overview or Recents, you could tap and hold on any text or image to share it to another app. This allowed users to circumvent certain apps' lack of a proper share menu, so you could send Instagram pics as proper images via other apps, instead of sending post links.

WhatsApp improves audio attachment process with new UI, multi-selection, and previews

In a recent beta update, WhatsApp has completely overhauled the audio attachment interface. As you can see in the screenshots above and below, the change is impressive. We're going from a Gingerbread-era screen to something that looks decent on a modern device.

Beside the updated design and the removal of the awful grey bottom bar, the interface is functionally better. Locally available audio files show up with both their duration and size, a thumbnail on the left, and a play button on the right.

[Update: RE Camera app gone too] HTC has unpublished many of its Android apps from the Play Store

The HTC RE Camera app also gone

Back in February, we wrote about the disappearance of the HTC Mail app from the Play Store, but it was quickly restored. More recently, we received a tip about the Sense Home launcher also vanishing, but closer inspection shows that a total of 14 HTC apps have been unpublished in the last three months.

Looking at the latest HTC Corporation activity in App Brain, we can see that the Sense Home launcher and contacts app People were unpublished just this month.

Oppo Reno leaks show ToF camera, 5x optical zoom, and multiple colors

We know Oppo best as the sister company of OnePlus, with both manufacturers often sharing the same hardware across their products. That's not fair since Oppo is innovating a lot lately, especially in the camera sector. We even had the chance to test its prototype 10x optical zoom camera at MWC back in February. Then, in March, the company revealed in a flashy but meaningless video that it's working on a new device called Reno, scheduled to be released on April 24.

Android used to be the Wild West when it came to permissions: Apps would tell you what parts of your phone they needed access to before you installed them, and you could either accept that or not use the app at all — it was an all-or-nothing deal.

Google reminders are broken in Chrome desktop, again

Google may need a reminder on how reminders are supposed to work on the Chrome desktop client. Multiple users have complained about not being able to set reminders with either Google search or the omnibar — it's a feature that has gone missing time and again over the past couple of years.

Android Police has received multiple tips on the subject and is able to confirm that Chrome-based reminders are currently not working.
