Samsung registers 'DeX Pad' trademark in Europe, suggesting new form factor

The dream of the phone-as-desktop will never die...not if Samsung has anything to say about it. According to Galaxy Club in the Netherlands, Samsung is taking another shot at the dream with a new version of its DeX platform, and possibly abandoning the traditional dock form factor.

Introduced with the Galaxy S8 and S8+, users who forked over another $150 could purchase the DeX Station, which allowed them to dock their device, pair it with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, and use their phones like desktop PCs.

The sequel to the beautiful isometric puzzler Monument Valley was released in November, but if you still haven't played the original and you're wondering what all the fuss is about with this gorgeous perspective-bending game, then you might be in for a new year treat: Monument Valley is free now in several countries around the world.

Since we can't possibly check every country there is, I'll say that your best bet is to go to the Play Store listing wherever you live and see if it's free for you.

Google's Korean keyboard passes 100 million installs on Play Store

Google offers a few language-specific keyboards, including ones for Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Pinyin. The Korean keyboard, known simply as 'Google Korean Input' on the Play Store, has now passed 100 million installations.

Just like the standard Gboard, this includes features like swipe typing, voice input, and automatic text suggestions. There are also a few tweaks specifically for Korean users, like a single-vowel layout. If you speak Korean and you don't already have this for some reason, you can grab it from the Play Store at the link below.

Android Auto makes the in-car experience a lot nicer (at least when it's not bugging out), but it's tedious to have to plug your phone in every time you get in the car just to use it. We've been hoping for a wireless solution for some time now, and it seems like it's finally becoming a reality. JVCKENWOOD will have two receivers capable of wireless Android Auto on display at CES 2018.

Prisma passes 50 million downloads on the Play Store

It may seem far in the past now, but the craze surrounding Prisma was extraordinary. It became available on the Play Store to everyone in late July 2016, around a year and four months ago. Now the photo-editing app has reached 50 million installs on the Play Store, which is no small feat.

In case you need a reminder, people loved Prisma because of how comprehensive its editing was. It could basically turn a picture into an expressionist painting, with different filters actually named after the artists that inspired them.
